We've had endless trouble with the old existing deck. It receives full sunn all day and became extremely hard to maintain. Plus it looked pretty ordinary.
After lengthy discussions with Darren from #1 Decks, he recommended 3 options, one of which was teak.
We trialed a few small peices and left them in the sun for several months and they weather exactly as anticipated with a beautiful smooth silver patina.
A date was set and the materials were ordered.
Mitch, one of the senior carpenters from#1 Decks, showed up on time each and every morning they were supposed to and provided a detailed written report (along with progress photos) every afternoon.
They completed the job ON TIME & ON BUDGET with a clean site left behind.
We could not be happier with the experience or the result.

The deck is smooth and wonderful to walk on. We can't wait for spring and summer to really enjoy it.

Earlier this year we moved into Gymea and decided to make some changes to the back yard mainly installing a concrete pool. This meant we had to change a sliding door to a fixed glass window, completely redo our deck area and stairs as it was not pool safe, install a retaining wall and change our fence to be the right pool compliant height. #1 Decks did all of these projects in a timely and professional manner to a very high standard. We could not fault the service, turnaround and overall business.

Darren Etteridge the owner was great to deal with, was very knowledgeable and suggested Thermory and Scyon finishes which we love. Darren Brown the site manager was one of the best we have dealt with, he was always onsite when he needed to be and leading his team from the front. Great to see given we have had some other poorer experiences during this pool project. Mitch in the office who I had spoken with throughout the various projects was an excellent ambassador for the business, he came onsite himself to put up a bamboo screen which I had purchased through a separate supplier. A job they didn't have to do but we were so grateful because we knew that the end result would be exactly as we had hope for.

If you want to have the wood lightened like I did due to sunlight not penetrating to whole of our deck space, speak with Darren and he can have it put out in the sun in advance of build.

Darren and his team at #1 Decks were by far the best tradesmen we’ve ever had at our house - and we’ve had lots here lately!

The quality of the work, the respect we were afforded as owners, and the fact that nothing was a problem.
Darren made sure that we were happy with every detail and his tradesmen were great and very skilled.

#1 Decks were not the cheapest quote we had, and they weren’t the most expensive, but it was worth every cent to avoid the stress of an unresponsive builder.
If we had another deck to build I’d call Darren again!

Update: when we had a small issue due to expanding timber, Darren came back and fixed it - 2 years after the initial work. Great integrity.
