Review of ECU Tuning for the CFMoto 450MT
For anyone on the fence about ECU tuning, here’s my firsthand experience that might help you decide. During a Saturday morning ride to Beachmont in the Gold Coast hinterland, I had the good fortune of meeting Peter Kay from Kay’s Fabrication & Tuning. Peter, riding a grey 450MT, struck up a conversation with me about the pros and cons of our bikes. Naturally, the jerky throttle and occasional flame-outs came up. That’s when Peter mentioned he’s a tuner and has developed a custom ECU tune for the 450MT, which he’s perfected using his own bike as a test unit.

Peter even showed me how to access the ECU by removing the left panel. Once back home, I removed the ECU and messaged him that afternoon to arrange sending it for tuning. This is where Peter’s service truly stood out. Instead of waiting for Monday, he offered to meet me halfway that same afternoon, took the ECU, and worked on it overnight. By Sunday morning, he returned it to me, fully tuned—less than 18 hours from start to finish! (While I don’t expect this kind of speed every time, it was exceptional service.)
Now for the results: the difference is night and day. The jerky throttle is gone, replaced with smooth, responsive handling. The bike now has noticeably more low-end grunt, with improved torque and power, making it an absolute joy to ride. This is how the 450MT should have performed straight out of the factory. I understand the compromises made to meet EURO 5 emissions standards, but this tune transforms the experience completely.
For under $200, this Stage 1 Tune is worth every penny. Highly recommended!

The shop is always flat out, so book in early if you have a race meet to attend.
