If there's 4.6 starts with 75 reviews, that's a bad sign. So many one star reviews, why didn't I check ?.

Did not do what they said. I needed an engineer to go and do a new certification for a campervan as the one on there did not seem valid. I got a letter and hour before the job which I didn't see, asking for around $1700 instead of five hundred, after they saw my instruction letter, (which I didn't see obviously) but they said I would have to reply before they went but then went and did it anyway.

I live interstate and had told them beforehand I can't arrange access to the van again and can only do it once, hence wanting to arrange an electrician to attend and they said Rob would be able to write what is needed for electrical such as channeling and chasing and a reference to the rules and that the owner is entitled to a copy of the electrical compliance (they didn't he only only confirmed that it's 240 volt). They asked him if it has compliance for electrical and he said yes, but they didn't ask to sight it and confirm the reply to that request , even though I told them beforehand he said it exists but has refused to provide it and I need this checked just like if Rob was certifying the van himself now.

I confirmed I only need a standard campervan certification inspection as if it was being certified now, including his comment whether he could certify it as is and to check anything he normally would and list concerns including the battery instillation and ventilation. He didn't even check that, although it was in the list emailed in advance and if he was doing the certification himself as an engineer, they told me beforehand he is an engineer and very sharp and would notice it and comment. (I am now getting a normal certifier to redo it for $150. When first bookings, I asked a to z imports why they are over three times the price and they said as rob is an engineer and his checks reports are very detailed).

So the report was then apparently done and they made me pay $500 in advance when I never agreed to advance payment but reassured me it is thorough and I will be happy, then , but only gave me a high level letter not including the checklist I asked to be have checked & verification that he wouldn't certify it (only vague implication) with a photo of the current certification. It instead stated that only a quick visual check was done and the van seems not well completed.

They confirmed over the phone when stating it's done and to pay advance and i responded that I wasn't told I need to do that, that the job was done and I can be reassured that Rob is an engineer and will be thorough, and if there's any issues they will follow up..so I reluctantly paid in advance.

He didn't, they just said they only looked at the LH11 checklist and that's all they would need to do, and that it's not a certification as it already had one so they only took a photo of that and didn't do it as a new certification like requested. They said not to ask them for anything else and to contact their lawyer. Then refused to provide their lawyers details and said asking for the job to be completed was harassment.

They had initially ignored the request for days when I emailed politely with what was missing, before I chased it today, there wasn't harassment, today was just pleading for them to do what I had detailed in writing on a lot of detail before the job and then again before payment, that was needed. Again, refusal to discuss saying we can provide whatever we decide doesn't matter that this wasn't what was requested in writing before job was booked and done, and paid for.

So I will now have to take it to QCAT and I don't have easy access to the vehicle again.

Guys please please avoid if you don't want heartache, and to throw away half a grand. And do not ever pay I'm advance especially if they are saying conflicting things and trying to charge more etc already. Horrifying.

Super happy to be referred to this business! They were able to install and modplate my nismo seats, so I could enjoy them in my car.

I've dealt with a lot of car workshops, and was happy to experience a business with a dedicated Receptionist who handled my work request from beginning to end, including confirmation texts.

A to Z Imports were polite and professional and above all, did the work I needed done, in a timely manner. I would recommend them to others, and I would use them again in the future if I needed any more custom work or modplates etc.

I have recently received an email from A-Z that has inspired me to revise my review.

Pros: My motorcycle was already on the boat from the US to Australia when there had been the realisation that the exporting service did not file the import documents. A-Z speedily worked to get the import approval done and they had completed my compliance.

Cons:
When I had received my bike back from their compliance work, both the battery and the speedometer was broken.

A little background on the bike: The bike had less than 1000 miles (purchsed in late 2018) on it so it was functionally brand new. It didn’t even have enough milage on the bike for it to be brought it for its first service. There should have been no issues related to the functionality of the bike. The bike is also stored in an underground garage.

When I had received the bike back from compliance, the battery no longer started. This should not have been an issue because the battery had been replaced about a month or so before the bike had been given to A-Z for compliance. Additionally, when I had put the bike in the tow truck to be transported to A-Z, there was absolutely no issues with the battery and the bike started right away.

In addition to the battery, the speedometer was also broken. The needle would constantly get stuck at various speeds and even when the bike was parked, it still read at 40km/hr. This poses an additional issue living in Brisbane due to the fact that there is a hefty speeding fine issued if you are slightly over the speed limit.

When I had contacted A-Z about the speedometer not working, they gave me a bunch of unlikely reasons as to why it wasn’t working. They had told me that speedometer wasn’t working because the bike hadn’t been started in two months. I can can see that being possible reason if the bike was much older than a year, but considering that this bike is roughly a year old - that reason is incredibly unlikely. A much more plausible reason is that in order to bring the bike up to Australian compliance standards, they had inserted a thick plastic insert under the speedometer needle. The main issue with this method according to the manufacturer, is that the speedometer is absolutely not designed to be tampered with in any capacity. I took the bike to the manufacturer and they confirmed that it was the work that A-Z had done that was the reason for the speedometer issue.

The only solution they offered me was to bring the bike in. I live over an hour away and am a full time student. So my options were to drive the bike on the highway with no speedometer (seems very dangerous) OR to pay a lot of money to have it towed to A-Z. And if I had to have it towed there and back from A-Z, it would have basically cost the same amount as a new speedometer. With the attitude and unreasonably defensive responses that I had received from A-Z, I was under the strong impression that they would not actually do anything to help me so I considered this to be a poor solution.

The email previously noted at the top of this review from A-Z was actually an email threatening me with legal action for my previous review. They stated it was slander however I have plenty of documentation of corroborate my story and of their poor responses to my issues. In their email, they continued to state that “the reviews are only based on fact” - I find this to be odd because at least 2 of these 5 star reviews (Brent and Rae-Ann) are from the employees of A-Z. This is a huge conflict of interest - if this service is as good as they claim it to be then I can’t see why the employees are writing these reviews in order to boost their rating. Shouldn’t their work speak for itself?
