I really enjoyed my time at the Mission Beach Retreat. The staff is super friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and the location is perfect, just steps from the beach. Clean rooms, cozy common areas, and an overall great place to chill and meet other travelers. Would definitely stay again!

Stayed for 5 nights in mid November in an 8 bed mixed dorm. Rooms were tidy, cleaned daily and came with aircon that you can control. No storage lockers in the rooms however there was a wardrobe. The kitchen was well equipped with two fridges, a freezer and dry storage. Appliances included two kettles, toasters, microwaves and stove tops, as well as an air fryer. Plenty of pots, pans and cutlery were also provided. There did seem to be an ant problem in the kitchen, as one time when using the kettle there were ants crawling all over it on one side; likely caused by the lack of windows or fly screens in the kitchen and common area. The common area featured plenty of seating, a few sofas and some stools with places to sit and, as well as a selection of books and board games. Other facilities included two washing machines and one dryer, as well as a big washing line outside. There was only the option to do a cold wash which wasn’t the end of the world. They also provide laundry baskets which was a nice touch. The pool area was a bit run down - dirty furniture and old birthday banners up (?), but it was a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were all lovely, particularly the young Dutch girl (regretfully forgot her name), they were all friendly and very helpful. Overall I would stay here again, but would explore other options in Mission Beach too.

* AVOID AT ALL COSTS *

I stayed here for a total of 2 nights, I did not feel safe here at all, reception is mainly closed and when they are open then shut early!

Rooms are always unlocked so people can always walk in a steal. Just felt very unsafe here. On the first night I woke up with 5 bites on me, bed sheets are dirty and itchy. The floors and very dirty, obviously hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. The sofas in the communal areas are very dirty, packed with dirt, and dust. Would not recommend this hostel to anyone!!

Avoid at all costs!

I had an absolutely horrible stay at this hostel. The bedding was extremely dirty, with dead insects on the pillow, and the floor was very dusty. There was only one shower for 8 people, which was a nightmare.
The other guests were loud and very strange, including a person who seemed to be on drugs wandering around the hostel. There is absolutely no security—reception is never open, so anyone can just walk in and steal your belongings. The people staying there were also very unfriendly and cold.

I ended up having to sleep in the common room because the situation was so bad. I would never stay here again. Please, do yourself a favor and stay away from this place!

According to the booking confirmation, check-in was possible from 11:00 am. However, reception closes at 10.30am and doesn't open again until 4pm. I would have liked more transparency here in advance so that I could have planned my arrival better.

The dorms were not particularly clean (briefly swept, chewing gum on the bed frame, cigarette butts in the corner), but okay for the price and a shared room
