I loved this place for lunch. Worth the 5 min drive off the highway to take a load off and 'stop revive and survive'.

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I and our 3 young boys were on our way back from our holidays up north.

We rang ahead when we were 30 minutes away to place our order. This was no problem at all.

When we arrived the boys chips and nuggets were soon on the table and very well cooked.

Shortly after my wife’s feathers and fin (chicken schnitzel with creamy prawns on top) arrived. Beautifully cooked and the chicken was so tender. It was a proper chicken breast not those ones out of a box. 5/5!

My Porterhouse with mushroom gravy arrived at the same time as my wife’s meal. It was the most tender and perfectly cooked steak I think I’ve ever eaten! 5/5!

I’m a bit sad now though because I can’t see any other steaks I order when out in the future being as good as the one I ate here.

The only criticism of the place is it was a little nippy inside but other then that, a great establishment.

$22 for mediocre fish & chips is a bit rich. Would pass unless you are really hungry. I wasn't alone in my assessment of things as some other oldies sitting next to me were squabbling amongst themselves over the price.

Bartender somewhat reluctant to make certain meals on the menu, but she was ok.

Locals friendly enough. Couldn't really recommend it but it wasn't horrible.

Really good outback country pub. Meals are really good, large. Hospitality is exceptional. Huge parking area for caravans and large vehicle over road. Public toilets outside.

I actually remember the first time I went to the Family hotel in Carrathool. It was about October 1999 and I was participating in a bucks party mystery tour. I particularly remember the floor in the barroom. It had a graceful, gentle slope towards the bar from the doorway and the walls of the barroom. Whether this was a submissive marketing ploy established by the publican in order to gravitationally bolster sales from the patrons or just an ageing of the floor structure remains to be seen. Come to think of it. Because of by the end of the nights proceedings I certainly had consumed my fair share of "Congratulations, your getting married" liquid portions of the festivities. The gradual sloping floor structure may have just been a figment of my imagination.
Regardless of that. This was certainly a well established pub that obviously was held in high regard by the patrons. Either by the local people or the visiting patrons such as myself. I enjoyed the Family hotel. It was a hell of a nice place to be.
