Saturday Only review.
Lots of punters filling the streets. Sideshow alley, reminiscent of the old local show and even an "Every child wins a prize", and a small number of food stalls that are present at local weekend markets, and 1 or 2 from afar. It'd be interesting to know how much of them are local and the revenue stat's in Casino. All the pubs and cafes were open and doing a roaring trade from what I saw. That's great. There was a very small section with "Show" cattle all getting primped and brushed and blow-dried. Wood chop was great, but the trick horsemanship and dog show was a bit 'lame' with the horse and rider coming to grief with the rider doing a handstand and the horse slipping and collapsing due to the slippery surface, but the clever dog was able to fetch a bottle of water and sit. The horseman was clever being able to stand with one foot on the back of side by side horses trotting around the arena. The boning competition had definite connections with "Beef" week, but it was on the back of a flat bed truck and watching the breaking down of the hindquarters was interesting but then the actual turning of the primal cuts into retail cuts couldn't be seen. Then the meat was whisked away into the cool room to follow health regulations, after it'd been in the sun for 2 hours in the open, with wofts of saw dust in the air. The finale of the boning demonstration held up the parade by at least 45 minutes so I'm sure all the participants in the parade and the crowd lining the street waiting for the parade appreciated the delay, even though they couldnt see it. The parade. A random collection of school kids dressed as storm troopers, from both sides of the education spectrum, public vs catholic, with public taking the ribbon. These along with other various community groups, the Beef Queen on a trailer being towed by a dirty Ute, and a huge Christian School bus. Interesting tractors that fitted in with the theme and a Ford Mustang......that was obviously there to thrill the crowd as it revved its Coyote engine. The parade was supposed to have been lead by one of the local highway patrol vehicles but the sawdust must've been too deep around the Mafeking Lamp and so the local Pajero stole the limelight. The random Grafton Jacaranda promotional vehicle was very purple. There were two cowgirls dressed as mounted police I think, or they were actually mounted police but there was no effort to clean up the deposits of one of the horses and several of the paradees walked straight through it as they did their laps of honour. At least the RFS drivers saw it and avoided getting their tyres dirty.

Beef Week is a celebration of the main industry in the town of Casino and region around Casino in NSW. On the last Saturday of May each year they have a festival and parade through the streets. Fantastic event, fun for families, good food, great country music and more.

I don’t know what it is but it seems Beef Week is nowhere near as good as it used to be.
