Decided to stop by for dinner upon a quick scan on google review. Upon entering, we were greeted by a lovely waitress who after asking for our table preferences, guided us to a lovely little spot with outdoor views.

Ordered the garlic bread and baked oysters for entrees; and the shrimp and barramundi for mains. The oysters and barramundi were delightful and my parents found the garlic bread and the shrimp to be absolutely gorgeous. This is to the point of planning for another meal during our little vacay! (Mind you, we were only staying for two nights in Albany)

The thing I was most impressed by was the service provided by the staff!! I was slightly disappointed by the gap in the tent-like wall structure of the dining area but other than that, am as happy as a clam.

For those who prefer a flavourful dish, would recommend Chef Rosa's Garlic Paprika Shrimp Delight!

Beautiful, elegant and picturesque! Came here with my father on our road trip through the south, expected a roadside eatery and was met with a stunning, welcoming and timeless restaurant delivering exceptional food. The best fish I’ve had in Australia, exceptionally well balanced, beautiful blend of spices and totally worth every dollar.

Located on Frenchmans Bay Road, relatively close to the Denmark Road interchange. It is on the roadside in front of the Chalets on Frenchman. The restaurant is relatively low key and non-descriptive from the street.

We decided to book on the basis of some of the more recent reviews. In hindsight we should have checked more carefully. When we arrived on a Saturday night we were surprised that there was only one other table in a fairly expansive dining area occupied. Not quite one of the hottest restaurants in town as described on their website.

The menu is relatively eclectic, not certain what cuisine they were highlighting - felt a little confused. We ended up selecting the Rock Salt Oysters Rockefeller ($19.50) and the Smoked Pulled Pork Yorkies ($17) for entrées. My Yorkshire puddings were stuffed with tender, moist smoky pork shoulder - a real Tex-Mex flavour, although would have liked more than a dollop of the birria sauce. My wife’s oysters didn’t look like the picture on the website, with the three oysters with the crunchy green topping completely overwhelming the oysters, to such an extent she found it hard to determine whether the oysters were baked or raw as they tasted partly cooked.

For our mains we went with Chef Rosa's Ceylon Coastal Journey ($33.50) and Chef MIchelle's Signature Lemon Herb Chicken Francaise ($30). I’m not certain why you would ever serve grilled Barramundi with a brown spicy gravy. It was almost like they were more concerned about how it looked on the plate rather than how it tasted. boasts a crispy skin, swimming in a velvety coconut gravy infused with Sri Lankan spices. The caramel-glazed grilled baby carrots and beetroot puree were pure 1970s - not certain what the three yellow dollops on the plate were or what purpose they served. The Sri Lankan tuna potato croquet reminded me of local short eats from my time in that country not that it had any relationship to the frozen fillet of barramundi. The coconut sambola was the biggest disappointment on the plate. I make this at home and it is nothing like this dry miserable serving. The chicken cutlets had been tenderised so much that they ended up overcooked and tough rather than being plump & moist. The sauce was so lemon that it detracted from the dish. Not certain what value the spaghetti added.

When we went to order deserts, we were told that 1/2 the dishes weren’t available - even though there were only four other dinners on a Saturday night. Decided to go with the sticky date pudding with butterscotch drizzle ($13.50) and the tiramisu ($13.50). The pudding was moist but the sauce was hardly luscious and lacked that rich sticky butterscotch flavour. The tiramisu was average but not authentic slice of heaven nor ‘unbeatable’.

The strawberry mojito was nice and refreshing as were the local wines. Just wish they had offered some local craft beers.

We did try and discuss it with ‘Chef’ Michelle but she was lacked knowledge about the dishes and after to speaking to ‘Chef’ Rosa was very defensive about the way the food was cooked, saying they cooked it that way because that’s how the locals like. Judging by the lack of patrons the locals are after something different.

We just felt that the menu was confused with Western, Italian, Malaysian, Mexican, English and Sri Lankan dishes. It just felt like a mashup of cuisines none of which went well together.

Until they work that out I wouldn’t be recommending as this as exceptional dining or culinary magic.

Delicious seafood for us. The paprika prawns and barramundi were superb. Delicately cooked fish with distinctive Sri Lankan inspired flavours.
The chefs Roas and Mi hell are friendly and welcoming.
The sides were down to keep the AC in but during the day I imagine them open and the seating extending into the garden.

Some of the best food I have ever had in a long time. The food is extremely high quality and tasty. They add their own little twist on the menu and it really shines through and surprises me with new flavours. Have had 4 meals in total and all of them were superb. The staff are super friendly and welcoming 🙂

I feel like this is a little hidden gem of Albany 🙂

Rock Salt has earned 5 Stars today from us. The best meal we have eaten in Albany on our 4 night stay. The prawn dish was elegantly presented and tasted devine. A bottle of Alkoomi Late Harvest white wine was the perfect accompliant to the prawn dish and enhanced the flavours of the dish. Finished the meal with Sticky Date Pudding with a lovely (not too sweet) butterscotch sauce and icecream. Rounded our meal off with a very nice Cappacino coffee.

The staff were lovely, engaging and the service was prompt. We were guided by their suggestions for choices in the meal which made for a most satisfying and enjoyable eating experience. Definitely recommend this restaurant for a unique dining experience. Being able to eat outside and have our small dog with us was a bonus.

Incredible taste and presentation, cocktails are spot on and our table was neat and tidy, with beautiful 4 ring LED lighting.

Chef Michelle was very friendly and professional, music was all reggae covers and could be of more variety but it wasn't unpleasant.

Plenty of parking but lots of roadworks around so be careful of dust when it's a windy day.
