Has anyone been in a similar situation? I applied (8/11/2024) for a Tourist Visa - 600 for my 12-year-old son and received an S56 (25/11/2024) request for further information, which I promptly provided. However, I haven't received any updates since. My son is currently in Bali with his grandmother (64 years old), and we have no information on whether his application is being processed or has been refused. His vacation is ending soon, and he will need to return. We are feeling frustrated as he came from so far away to experience Australia, but it seems he might leave without the experience we hoped for.

If you’ve experienced something similar and could share your insights, I’d greatly appreciate it, as I feel quite confused about what to do next. Thank you.

All reviews about officer David are true, he is really nice and friendly person, all interview process went smoothly with no hassle at all.
In test room also no pressure or disrespect from a stuff members.
The only one who is bossing around was the guard on a street door but it's more like a small man complex rather than shame for entire department.
In general I would describe my experience as positive.

Its absolutely crazy how the lady on call told me to check the website and did not helped me i had some enquires about my visa she did jot helped me it was not the thing she could not helped me with it but a very simple minor enquiry . If you breach a visa conditions they will come after you like crazy but when it comes to helping they do nothing at all. Really really really pathetic. Absolutely poor experience with them on call!!!

The Department of Home Affairs has faced criticism for its inefficiency and lack of accountability. My grandmother was unjustly denied access, with no reasonable way to provide further information. The process is not only unhelpful but also costly, as appealing through the tribunal costs nearly $3,500—a prohibitive expense for many. This reflects broader issues, such as delays in visa processing and inadequate responses to complaints, as highlighted by investigations into the department’s governance and service failures. This level of dysfunction is unacceptable and deeply frustrating.

The elderly find it difficult to log these visas and it’s not made easy on their behalf. How can a one month Visa be denied? Absolutely ridiculous.

Well, it was nice to see the Department where all decisions are made.

The interview and citizenship test is done on the same day.

The atmosphere did seem a bit tense, but I was there to do my test and respect what was asked.

The officer who interviewed me was very pleasant, and then off I went to do my citizenship test.

The word of advice is to arrive up 20 mins before the interview. There are places to eat and parking behind the Departments office.

Study for the test a month before and come prepared.

Absolutely brilliant customer service. I read the reviews before going to DHA, and straight up, I was so surprised to feel listened to and supported and I just don’t understand why there are so many bad reviews. Maybe just one bad apple was encountered? Thanks DHA, you have made my day!

I had a wonderful experience during my citizenship interview and test this morning. Officer David, who conducted my interview, was exceptional. Despite my nervousness, he put me at ease with his professional and friendly demeanor. His approach helped calm my nerves and made the process much more comfortable than I had anticipated.
The test area was equally welcoming, thanks to a friendly and smiling lady who created a positive atmosphere. Her warm presence added to the overall pleasant experience of this important day.
Both David and the lady in the test area exemplified the kind of professionalism and kindness that can make a significant difference in such a crucial moment. Their attitudes not only helped me perform better but also left me with a positive impression of the entire citizenship process.
I'm grateful for their efforts in making what could have been a stressful experience into a memorable and encouraging one. Their approach truly reflects well on the department and the citizenship process as a whole.
