I was involved with OneIT in developing a database system for a volunteer-run non-profit wildlife rescue group. The project was simple in scope with adequate budget - $50,000 to develop a system to record reference numbers and details for animals rescued. OneIT promised us the world, but over the course of 12 months, they stumbled at every hurdle and delivered a clunky product that is a burden to our group and not representative of the cost or time-commitment from our group.

The primary issues have been a lack of OneIT's in-house testing, disregard for UI/UX design, and inability to take accountability for negligence in the prototype design phase.

The lack of in-house testing was evident in every 'sprint' release stage of the database, where we as the client were expected to 'guinea pig' the system and report bugs to OneIT. On each of these occasions it was clear that OneIT lacks expertise (or care) to perform in-house testing, as basic issues were repeatedly uncovered. We then had to endure an arduous process of reporting and rectifying the issues using OneIT's in-house tracking system, which ironically contained software bugs of its own.

For our volunteers that now use the database, the poor UI/UX design is by far the biggest grievance and disappointment of the project. In the prototype design stage we raised initial concerns about usability, but were promised that the final product would look a lot different - we trusted OneIT and understood that it made sense not to optimise the design in the prototype stage. However, several months later when the final product began to take shape, we were presented with what was essentially a mirror image of the prototype. We called an urgent meeting with our OneIT project manager, who downplayed our concerns and returned blame to us because we had signed off against the prototype - this felt like gaslighting, and we were told that any amendments to the UI/UX design would be 'Change Requests' that incur significant additional cost. Our non-profit group had already allocated the full budget, so we were stuck stuck with a product that is frustrating and difficult to use. This is one of several instances where OneIT has avoided accountability for poor design and planning, and repeatedly blamed the client for their own mistakes and incompetence.

A few months into our project, we were transferred from a Perth-based OneIT Project Manager to an offshore manager based in India without any explanation from OneIT. This severely disrupted our project, and seemed like the Perth head office just wanted to wipe their hands clean of our project by putting it in the 'too hard' basket. From that point onwards, we endured slow progress and ongoing issues with our database. Embarrassingly, the database had to be taken out of service on several occasions after 'going live' to our end users due to systemic issues and broken functionality. After raising concerns with OneIT's CEO, David, they eventually responded to our feedback and offered a small number of free support hours to resolve the most significant issues. Despite this, we are still facing a bill of close to $10,000 to resolve the remaining issues (on top of our already exhausted $50,000 budget) to get the database to a point of basic useability. We are now exploring options to take ownership of the source code so we can have the issues resolved independently, however, OneIT have made this process extremely challenging.

To provide a glimpse into OneIT's integrity, towards the end of the project we were being spammed with several automated emails each day from their 'Task Tracker' system. We requested that our group's President email address is removed from the list, and without notifying us that there would be a fee involved with this, OneIT proceeded to send us an invoice for $150 to remove the email from the distribution list. Not only is this highly unethical, but I suspect it's also illegal, and a true representation of the kind of business that OneIT is.
