Unfriendly and unprofessional welcome from the agent on the day of receiving the car. Having arrived the day before by plane, we were arriving from Perth to collect the car (at the location provided for people arriving from Perth, or not having a prior flight). Upon arrival an hour early, an unpleasant person told us that we had gone to the wrong place. Having previously received two emails telling me that it was possible to register online, and given the difficulty of doing so, I preferred to do it when receiving the car. To which the person replied "You just have to answer your emails when you receive them!" (meaning register online). He then told me that he didn't have the car but that he could give me a smaller one, without any increase in price. Which I refused because I wanted the reserved SUV. After calling his colleague to whom he said "She (the customer) does not want what I am offering her, she wants a big car". So we headed to another counter, 10 minutes by bus. Once the car was picked up and during the rental we were able to check various things..

1- The tire pressure was not done!
2- The front left indicator was not working
3- Windshield washer fluid reservoir TOTALLY empty!
4- The oil change was not done (the car reported it relatively early in our trip).

On the way back, wanting to refer to the staff, we found the office EMPTY with a sign "Open Monday to Sunday, from 7AM to 10:30PM", it was 9am. After waiting 20 minutes we called the phone number indicated, which told us to leave the key in the Drop-box. We did not see anyone.

Note the lack of professionalism of some agents, the lack of maintenance of the car, and the absence of presence at the counter.

Car was fine - however upon returning the keys (no Alamo representative present at service desk), I received a damage report and $655.00 was deducted from my credit card for alleged damage. The photos showed some minor damage to the sidewall of one tyre. No explanation of how this amount was calculated and no photo of the tyre at time of pick up.

Be careful! Hire car companies will often try to extract money from hirers for unsubstantiated damage.

I am disputing the damage fee, and I have threatened to sue Alamo in the local court if this amount is not returned to me.

Quote given was misleading, with many surcharges added at time of pick up including a 25% onsite fee (even though this was the only pick up location offered). Took 30mins until car was ready and it smelt like cigarette smoke. No Birds experience and pricing was much better.

Collecting and renting the car was a breeze. However, I do not like the idea of a separate insurance provided by Rental Cover. I have to pay a waiver to Alamo to reduce the excess and then claim separately from Rent cover if an accident happens. Why can’t it be handled by one agency if the unfortunate happens.
