I decided to go ahead with a 1963 swb landrover build after numerous discussions with Butlers. I was a little reluctant but I decided to go for it because we were talking late 20’s to completion and I thought it would be a cool vehicle for the $$’s. After extra discussions about fitting an LS1 engine & auto gearbox for an extra 8k (approx), I decided to also go ahead with these extra mods. I won’t go into detail with all the correspondence between myself and Butlers, just to say my budget ended up at around 40k from our discussions. I also don’t want to talk negatively about Butlers as I did my homework and they have a good reputation, it’s just easier to upload pics of what was delivered to me 3 weeks ago after pulling the pin on the job after I spent $26k with them (you can be the judge - see pics). I stopped the job because my budget was 40k max and at the 26k mark, I could not see the vehicle completed for under 60k+++? A lot more than our initial discussions & knowing the ‘real costs' at the beginning, I would have ‘not started' the project. My advice is wherever you go to get a car built, mods etc, make sure you have a contract explaining exactly what you're getting for your money. I contacted Butlers numerous times to try and resolve the issues but with no outcome, only "that’s what it’s gonna cost mate!" I’m not sure what to do with what’s arrived back to me? It’s either a trip to the dump or spare parts for engine & gearbox of approx $6k. Either way, i’ve lost about $20k. I won’t say anymore, just to let you know what I spent & pics of what arrived. And to be careful what people promise they can do! Check out the pics for yourself… maybe i’m being unfair, i’m not sure, but I feel ripped off! (Update - Money spent $26,000. Pics speak for themselves. Reason to stop job - $$ was blowing out and no where near original discussions & they couldn’t give me a final price. Pics uploaded is what arrived on the transport truck. Transport company took photos upon delivery. Only thing I have done my end is remove tarp. Legal action has not been finalised, mediation is only the first stage).
