Super impressed by this place. An enormous amount of historical items and information here. Some highlights include being able to walk through an old train carriage, seeing an old class room fully set up and a huge display of cameras throughout the years. Entry for adults is only $5 and you can easily spend a couple of hours here

Fantastic place to stop for some lunch and a wander around the various buildings filled with Australian history. The staff there are very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to look after you. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. It seems you can also camp there by the river for free, but we were just passing through.

We spent a lovely morning roaming around the 'town' and met a few of the 'locals'. It was a real step back in time with many facets of the local history. The people were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Loved it!

We got married at the chapel inside the calliope historical village. We hired both the chapel and pub for the wedding, Mona from the Historical village was lovely to deal with. The planning of the wedding went smoothly and the staff/ volunteers went above and beyond to ensure the day went perfectly. I could of not asked for a more beautiful place to have our special day

Our first visit to this wonderful little village of Calliope we originally just pulled over for a comfort stop. We suddenly realised that the volunteers made scones with jam and cream and lovely coffee ☕ for a very reasonable price. Also the historical village was full of School children learning about the past a wonderful place to stop and they have a free camp site overnight out tge back on the river.

Caravans may park on the council site below the village. It is a beautiful park for self contained caravaners and campers, unfortunately, there are no toilets. Unbelievable. No dump site either. But access and egress are easy. When we were there it was quiet at night, with minimal highway noise. Felt secure with plenty of caravaners, but wasn't crowded or suburban. Road in and out good. Across the river causeway (southside) there are facilities, but too far to walk. Campers mostly use the lower bank on the south. The Historic village 'shop' opens at 9 am, closes at 3 pm. Very limited, the Historic village has toilets for patrons.
