This diesel generator is the only power supply for Warburton.

I'm going to use this review to give some travel / living here advice related to an intermittent power generator.

Being a generator that runs on a finite supply of diesel, this power supply is not always up and running.

First the travel advice: if the power is down, you might not be able to refuel or purchase anything at the Roadhouse.
In this situation, all you can do is wait it out.
Carry cash with you, in some circumstances, you may be able to make cash purchases of food and drinks, but a power outage will mean the petrol pump is completely inoperable for the duration of the outage.

If you're planning to move here for work, there is a good chance you'll experience a power outage or two.

Be prepared for this, bring out other sources of lighting such as battery powered lamps and torches. Make sure they're stored in an area that can be easily accessed / found in the dark. If you are too stingy to pay for your own emergency lighting, get some matches and candles. Either way, you'll need them at some stage. I've been astounded at the stinginess of people out here earning six figure salaries who refuse to shell out a few dollars for a torch and batteries and insist on "borrowing one" from a neighbour and then complaining when they don't get one. Don't be one of those arse-wits.

If the power goes out in the middle of summer, get a battery powered fan or two. Might sound like an excessive luxury item, but they can provide some relief from the heat when everything feels like it is melting.

Keep valuable items such as computers on a surge protector. I've never had any electrical appliance die due to power surges, but I know other people out here who have experienced that.

Solar + battery bank power: if you know how to rig up solar and battery banks, go ahead. I've seen them used to get by very comfortably during power outages, but that's a lot of gear and effort for a short amount of time with power out. I've never seen the power go out for more than a few hours, so it's up to you if you think you need extra power during an outage of that length of time - if being prepared makes you feel better, then go ahead and be more self sufficient. More power to you.
