Fingal Beach and Barry's Park above it are a terrific place to visit for families. The beach is very children friendly and has a surf patrol through through summer. The shallow warm waters provide for a great experience for the little ones.

For those who like walks a walk along the beach to the Fingal spit can be an interesting one. When the conditions are right a walk to the island is possible but be wary of quick sand along the spit.

Barry's Park above the sth end of the beach is a popular wedding photo spot and has amazing views up the coast and in winter whales can be spotted passing the coastline. There are BBQ and toilet facilities available.

Beyond awesome, one of the best beaches at the Hunter and Newcastle region, very suitable for swimming, facilities near by.
To add more the spit point and the scenery are magnificent.

Great beach esp considering the spit, wouldn’t recommend the ocean beach road trail, is a bit steep and long. The walk across the beach is also long but pretty scenic and straightforward. Note that the spit might not be walkable even on low tide if the waves are going a bit crazy that day.

If I tell you how good this place is, everyone will want to go. Sort of off the beaten track from Shoal Bay is Fingal Beach. The southern end is great for kids in quite calm waters, there are no huge waves. Midway along is the surf club (food and drink) and this part is patrolled. If the tide is down, walk along the spit to Shark Island - but beware, the spit can cut you off between the main beach and the island. Food shops at southern end of beach.
Ideal also for those with mobility issues, you can get onto the beach by the boat ramp at the southern end if in a wheelchair (with assistance).
If you do go to Fingal Island, the lighthouse is standing but the keepers cottages are abandoned and a tad spooky in the evening! But beware of the tides getting there.

Must walk to the sandbank to Shark Island. Check for tide times. The view looking towards Box Beach and beyond was breathtaking. It looked out of this world. There were also not many people there which added to the surreal feeling.

We choose the 26Nov2023 (Sunday) to go there, cause the tide level was very low (around 0.3m at 3pm). We were able to go to the Fingal island and return. The water didn’t cover the spit to Fingal island when we left the beach at 5pm.
But it is always better to check tide level before you go. Stay safe.

Gorgeous beach, extremely clean! No seaweed, shell debris or bluebottles that we saw. We did the long walk around to Fingal Spit, across the sand bank to Shark Island and it was extremely picturesque. We came on a Friday and it wasn't too busy, we were able to find street parking near the Fingal Surf Life Saving building, and it was a few mins walk to the beach entrance. Kiosk there was open "from 8am to 'Going with the flow'", so when I came by around 3.30pm they had already closed. No other alternatives (such as a vending machine) available. Public bathrooms were kind of gross and stinky, I walked in and walked out without using them. The beach is patrolled 8am-6pm and is very family friendly. Overall an amazing beach but the amenities could be improved.
