Great guys to deal with, one of the very few places in Australia you can still walk in and buy steel offcuts. Very relaxed business with good banter, they’ll also punch holes in plates as needed or drill holes in SHS.

I have given 1 star due to WOEFUL welding. U be the judge.

The facts are:

This review is many years after Marshal Steel supplied and fabricated structural steel members for a residential dwelling.
Buildings sometimes take many years for poor or defective work to appear (the reason for such a late review).
Marshal Steel were contracted in 2012 to supply, fabricate and deliver steel post and bracing from supplied work shop drawings. Steel (done properly) will last a very very long time with proper maintenance.
Forward to 2022 and its time for some maintenance to be performed.
The maintenance is reasonably simple, find rust wire brush it off and apply a protective coating. This of course leads to getting up close to the material and removing old coatings and rusted steel.
Whilst the old coatings and rust is being removed it is exposing the WOEFUL TRAGIC workmanship of Marshal Steels welding. The welds look like apprentice practise I did in year 11 high school! No I did much better! (In the image below it looks like this weld is failing and the steel plate is delaminating from the post).
There are many many simple straight forward welding joints throughout the dwelling performed by Marshal Steel. 80% of them are as per the images in this review. To give some credit there are some perfect welds as well. I am certain there were two people welding, one WOEFUL and the other a Tradesman. In some cases the slag has not been removed and painted over, keep in mind these are simple welding joints on a workshop bench in their factory not hanging upside down off scaffold on a construction site!
How Marshal Steel allowed such tragic work to leave their premises I do not know!
Marshal Steel at the time would not run accounts and would not let any work leave their premises without payment (due to the Global Financial Crisis and not getting paid I presume). It would be smart if Marshal Steel are engaged by yourself to perform work you go to their factory and check the job progress for quality. Maybe they have changed their practises 10yrs latter.
No thanks to Marshal Steel I am now fixing their stuff at my cost.

Best steel yard in SE QLD. Good range of steel, friendly helpful staff. Quality advice. Especially great for DIY and hobby turning and welding needs. Proper old style family business while having modern products and services.
