This museum is one the best in CQ and for railway enthusiasts, it boasts the last 2 ABT 0-4-0 locomotives used on the Mt Morgan line. A QR 1960s Rail Motor 2014 has been restored and can be accessed by visitors.
There is an excellent 20 min audiovisual movie with a 3D view part that covers the history of the line and the ABT rack system, one of two in Australia.
Entry is $5.50 (no concession).
The Mount Morgan Railway Station has been fully restored to its former glory and houses the Information Centre and museum, which showcases an extensive collection of historic railway material.
There are clean restrooms available, postcards and other memorabilia, disability access and ample off-street parking.

Great salvation of amazing history. One of only 2 Rack & Pinion railways in Australia! Sadly the rack system was removed in 1952 after a bypass line, but still amazing history and volunteers.
Beautiful equipment and history. Highly recommended to visit.

Staff are lovely and friendly. The museum is worth a visit, very interesting. Cute kiosk. Cool souvenirs. Has driver reviver rest stop with free tea and coffee. Plenty of parking. Lovely gardens and picnic tables. Wall of Honour dedicated to Railway workers is great. Restrooms are kept very clean and tidy. Definitely worth a visit.

While visiting Mount Morgan , we decided to take a look at the Railway Museum. An amazing experience. Loved the old rail motor. The memories of riding them as a kid came back. The 2 fellas looking after the visitors were very knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks Ken and Julian . Will definitely visit again next time I come back.

We learnt two things during this visit; how Rockhampton got its name and that trains used to allow smoking, offering ash trays to guests!

Shouldn't be harsh, it's one of two museums in town, didn't have time to investigate the other, but perhaps the two museums could get together and offer discounted entry to both sites?

$5.50 entrance fee for adults, $4 for children.

Perhaps I didn't have time to unearth the deep dark secrets that make a place memorable. Perhaps they are on hand, waiting to be uncovered?

Good place to visit in Mount Morgan. Interesting short 9 minute movie to watch, lots to read about how the rack rail allowed the train to get up the steep razorback to the mine. Great job done by the man who showed us around of repairing and repainting one of the old engines.

Great place to stop and visit. Knowledge and friendly guides. Loved the 9 minute film showing the town and rails history.
So well presented and lived hearing about the Rack Railway.
