I personally have great experiences with most of the teachers and staff and rarely a couple random students other than friends but the only bad experiences that I had to deal with was caused by misbehaving students.

Every school has its advantages, and every school has its downsides. Northam SHS is no exception.

I was given many opportunities at NSHS to achieve greatness. Whether that be scholarship, in school events, or learn outside of the classroom. NSHS offers the opportunity for students to learn the basics to set them on their way to higher education. It is well established that any student following the “curriculum” is not going to go far. Students that will go far will look as such to find opportunity.

I believe that is what is most important for any school, access to opportunity. NSHS- at least for me. Did not hold me back from getting opportunities presented to me and, in fact, offered opportunities directly to me. Varying from assisting in school events, meeting high profile individuals, or excursions to extend my understanding of topics and perspectives through meeting others and joining activities.
The staff at NSHS have given me endless joy and unforgettable experiences. I greatly appreciate their time and effort to helping me on my journey through secondary education.

Of course there are areas for improvement, some I personally think are important are the following:
The disconnect between staff and students is very disappointing. For a school that prides itself on its “community United” and “the 4 ‘C’s that make up agreed behaviours” I’d argue those are its greatest weaknesses.
There needs to be a greater emphasis on individuality in the curriculum. All students doing the same work each year is ok, but once a student shows their individuality there is almost no attempt to encourage them to explore their options. My emphasis on students exploring for themselves is very apparent here.

Ultimately it could be far worse. My secondary education experience was ok.
I hope NSHS only improves from now on.
