Pretty much stayed here for 2 weeks because we were desperate. The kitchens ok because they clean it daily however everything else is filthy and need to be either cleaned or repaired. The shower/ toilet block is horrible and is only cleaned once a week from what i can tell. The one star is for the walking distance to the cafe across the road and you just have to walk up the 100m hill to get to iga. Hope this helps people.

I stayed at the cottage and it was lovely. There was plenty of room, a well appointed kitchen, dining and eating area and close to the supermarket. My only criticism, is there is only 1 toilet and bathroom, As this hostel potentially holds 14 people- I don't believe that's enough, however it wasn't full during my stay, so it was manageable.I would come back here again. The other hostel is near the railway line and that is where you check in and collect your key.

It's not clear from the other reviews, but this isn't a standard YHA hostel. There are two parts - one bigger building next to the office, with dorm rooms housing people working on nearby farms, and a house up a side street with one dorm room and two double rooms for visitors. The latter is where you'll be staying if you're on a tourist trip. It's a regular house from Pemberton's logging days, which may sound quaint, but that means it has a tiny kitchen (a problem if there are more than a couple of people staying there), and high ceilings that keep it very cold. ||||There's basically no heat except for a wood stove, which is hard to justify firing up when you're only going to be in the kitchen or living room for an hour or two before getting in bed. The rooms have space heaters but they're not capable of increasing the temperature at all, given the size of the room, high ceiling, and drafty windows. It was pretty cold when I stayed there (down close to freezing at night, and only up to about 13C during the day), and that made me want to leave as soon as possible. The people at reception were hard to get hold of but helpful when they were around, and were able to give me a refund for the nights I had booked but decided not to stay.||||It was clean, almost eerily so. Maybe they had a full change-out based on some of the other reviews, but it was completely spotless with what looked like brand new dishes and cookware in the kitchen (I was the only person there my first night). It was kind of creepy seeing that kind of stuff in what's supposed to be a backpacker hostel, where people often don't clean very well. They apparently have professional cleaners come every day to take care of the kitchen.

You book in at the backpacker hostel down near the club, which looks like it is a working hostel.||||The YHA is up opposite the IGA and is one of the original mill workers cottages. I loved it. It is spotlessly clean & full of character. I was there, early June and I wasn't at all cold.||||Pemberton is a great place, lots to see and do. Be a perfect weekend away, walking, checking out the sights, and then coming back to a cute cottage, with open fire and kitchen, where you could cook a meal .... so much better than staying at a B & B ... in my opinion ! ..... and at probably about 1/3rd of the cost !

An attractive clean cottage in the centre of the pleasant small town of Pemberton. Comfortable living room with a wood stove, dining room, good kitchen, coin laundry machines, front and back porches with an attractive back yard. Not large but there were only two of us staying the night; I get the impression that this is not atypical. More like having your own house for your stay rather than staying in a hostel. Grocery store and liquor store directly opposite. A comfortable base for exploring the nearby parks and forests.

It was a last minute decision to stay here but so glad we did. We stayed in the cottage opposite the IGA( we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves). It was comfortable and had everything we need. The shower was huge which was nice. The staff were very helpful. It hasn't been updated recently but I don't think that matters. Very reasonable for the price.

I was a short term guest and stayed at the cottage on dean st. It felt more like an air bnb than a hostel. Irs a 3 bed 1 bath. 1 room is bunks 1 dbl and 1 twin. A lady comes and does the cleaning everyday. Rooms and beds were clean but i found a few grubby things like food stuck on the kitchen chairs. Dust on the ceiling fans. Shower leaking badly. Considering its a hostel not a big deal. Really close to iga and the visitor centre. Wifi wasnt available. Bonus points for the super friendly cat that hangs around out the back

hike the Bibbulmun track, stayed here for a night, only cost $20 /bed per night, can’t find anywhere cheaper then this! owner and other tenants also friendly, nothing to complain about, only things they might not pick up the phone regularly, as owner not always in the office, could actually just walk in and get your bed here. (office by the back of main building)
