I’ve spent the past 12 months developing a contemporary blues album at Serotonin with Jake Mortin.
Jake is kind, talented, intelligent and humble.
His musicianship and his Understanding of production, dynamics, performance, emotion and genre are exceptional.

His ability to recognise tones, themes, production qwerks and distill ideas from reference material is impressive and has been invaluable in the creation of this album.

I’ll mention that Jake is also brilliant at intuitively identifiying performances or song sections that require change or emphasis and articulates the issues delicately and professionally.
A number of session musicians have been involved in the album and Jake has seamlessly co directed and captured the performances required for the album whilst managing the social dynamics that come with different personalities.

Over the past 12 months Jake and I have developed an amazing album and a strong relationship based on kindness, like minded morals and the co-creation of great art. Absolutely fantastic experience!

We just spent a few days in the studio with Jake. He made us feel so comfortable in a foreign situation. His understanding of everything to do with music really helped with transitioning our song from what was written for a live show to something that will be enjoyable on record!

To work with, he is very easy going. Jake has brilliant ideas which really impacted the song in a powerful, positive way, however is also ok with us preferring other options for sections, which really develops a bond of mutual respect and trust.

We are unbelievably happy with the final product, and are super excited to be visiting again in the future!

Also, the dog is soooooo cool! 😍
