Absolute world class black belt trainers and friendly family atmosphere. Excellent kids classes with international award winning dedicated, kind and patient instructors. Adults classes are challenging with a friendly and varied mix of students of many ages and experiences to train with. Senior black belt instructors have a mix of other martial arts backgrounds including Olympic Wrestling, Capoeira, Judo and other stand up styles that really give the advantage of training with enhanced perspective from different styles, not pure BJJ only style. In true martial arts spirit, they embrace the unique perspective of respect, honor and ethics to develop the wonderful family-centric community they have built over the years. The gym itself is super clean with washing machine on site for uniforms. The white mats make the space inviting and bright, the adjacent courtyard provides fresh air, a lovely green backdrop and airy atmosphere. Highly recommended!

My eldest son has been with SJJA Hurstville for 3.5 years now and my youngest has recently joined. Professor George and the coaches are incredibly skilled and genuinely passionate about teaching. I cannot recommend SJJA Hurstville enough! My three children attend weekly. The team are extremely professional, friendly and very caring towards all their students. It’s also always nice and clean.

The team at SJJA hurstville provide an awesome experience for the Kids, give them lots of great tips and provide extra classes and support before any comps come up. It's really helped my son improve and he enjoys every session. He likes his sessions so much that he hates it if he has to miss a session due to being sick or if something else comes up

Unfortunately we had to change academies. Quality has dropped off the cliff in the last 9-12 months. 45-minute classes consisted of 25-30 minutes of warm ups and a tips game with 15-20 minutes left for a technique and "some" sparring (as at times kids are sitting on the wall waiting a turn due to a lack of instructors).

"Private" lessons have taken some of the attention, space and instructors away from classes (as they are run at the same time). I understand, a business is there to make money, but a client pays to obtain a service. It's a two-way street.

Don't get me wrong, Benji and Jamie are phenomenal but knowing (having a skill) and teaching (knowing how to transmit that skill) are very different things - not to mention how to lead a class. Unfortunately the owner is at times nowhere to been seen (2 weeks at a time) and there is a lack of black belts present (generally none at all).

New academy is VERY different. 5-minute warm up, a technique or 2, and 30 minutes of sparring - if not more. LOL, kids are puffed out as they are not used it!

It's been fun but as the saying goes "if things don't change, you must."

My son has been training in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu kids class here since the start of last year, and he absolutely enjoys it. Coaches are skilled jiu-jitsu competitors and very professional - not only do they teach the kids important martial art skills, but they also teach them discipline and social skills needed for daily life. Highly recommended.
