I have previously made many purchases from Skein Sisters and found the customer service terrific. Recently, however, I was really disappointed when I returned some balls of yarn - simply to exchange for different colours - and the store treated this as an entirely new purchase and wouldn’t honour the discounted sale price I had paid for the returned yarn. When I have processed exchanges at any other retailer, I have never had to pay additional when exchanging discounted stock. Just seemed weird to me and I felt like the person responding to my query didn’t really care. I’d completely understand if I was seeking a refund or exchanging for different yarn. Anyway, I love to support small businesses but this has discouraged me a little, if I’m honest.

LOVE a visit to Skein Sisters! The team are always so helpful and willing to chat, and the range of yarns is wonderful - I feel like there's always something new to look at whenever I pop by! Hands down one of my favourite stores in Sydney, I'm already looking forward to my next visit. ♡

My favourite yarn shop by a country mile! Beautiful yarns and patterns and lovely helpful people. I’ve lost track of time browsing the great selection, bought super yarn, knitted away happily and attended one of their fab help classes. This isn’t just a yarn shop, it’s a therapy centre for knitters.

Absolutely stunning. It's very accessible, with the bus stop being right across the road and set of lights.

The staff were incredibly patient with the questions I had and were kind enough to give an overview of the stock they had on hand and showed me some sample pieces worked up with the yarn they were describing.

They also successfully got me to try some fingering weight yarn - I hadn't used anything less than DK - in their Romance line in shades Antique Shop and Dusty Roses. They also have a winding service available so it was very nice to not have to go home and hand wind it myself.

I have only begun to work up the yarn itself and it's incredibly easy and soft to work with. I am only using a moss stitch but the transition between the two shades are delightful, I've had no issues with snagging or frogging it, and it's beginning to have a lovely drape.

Given that the yarn I bought was hand dyed, it is a bit on the pricier side, but I find that it was very worth it and I'm very keen to start a larger project with their Romance line.

The atmosphere is incredibly cosy and relaxing, with not only classes being offered to teach people how to knit and crochet, but with handmade pieces being displayed in every corner of the store, with the staff proudly wearing their own creations. It feels more like a hub or community rather than just a store selling product.

My favourite store in Sydney! Great collection of quality yarns and knitting/crochet tools. The store is heaven for yarn lovers and the staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend this store to everyone I know!

Honestly I was disappointed in this store. It is often talked about as the store to go to when you are visiting Sydney but I will be telling people not to bother.

Their entire mohair section is in one of the photos and with it being so popular and in everything I was really surprised at how small that section was.

The other disappointing part was that the only major hand dyed is their in house brand. I totally understand wanting to sell only your own brand but they had basically no stock. In the photo any spot where there is only one skein is a display only skein which you can not buy. I did check the website to see if there was stock if I wanted to buy something but it was all sold out there too.

If I had come in with a project in mind that I wanted to use hand dyed yarn for I would have been disappointed as the range was so limited. I was so confused by the limited amount of stock that I checked their website and social media because I thought they may have been closing down.

Basically don't waste your time visiting the physical store whatever they have on their website is their stock. I honestly don't understand why they have a yarn store with no yarn in it.

My absolute favourite yarn store in Australia.
This is a store that is filled with passion. I visited today on a warm Saturday afternoon. Inside was thankfully air conditioned and people were enjoying the space browsing, knitting and really talking shop. The team are very friendly and know their stuff! This is clearly evident with the many demo items throughout the store. Deb and the team are welcoming no matter what stage of knitter you are.
Yarn selection is wide and I found there was decent stock levels so I was able to grab complete sweater lengths of yarn in the colours I wanted.
There is a nice selection of books, patterns and notions.
I have attended knit nights as well as classes that were friendly and well organised. I love the fostering of a local craft community that is missing in some of the stores I visit.
By far an international standard yarn store on my “must visit” list when I am in Sydney.
Highly recommended.
