We have arrived at the small petrol station puzzled by the location and intrigued by the reviews. The food, the presentation, the interaction with the guests - simply outstanding. Alan Wise runs it so smoothly and impeccably that such an event worths the travel from Perth and back. Superb! ⭐️

A hidden gem. This place is all about fantastic flavours. One of the most superb degustation experience I have had so far - truly impeccable. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed yet intimate, the food was phenomenal.

Alan and his apprentice, Lexie, were both a delight and genuinely interacted with each table. Perfectly timed pacing of service.

Each dish that was served brought a balance of flavours, texture, and creativity, and no dish overpowered the others. I will definitely come back to experience a different seasonal menu.

We just had an amazing dining experience in Chidlow! Great friends Anthony and Shirley (who live in the little village 50kms out of Perth), invited us to come along.

The restaurant is called 'Standard Gauge' and is run by a Michelin Three Star chef - Alan Wise, who lives locally. He chose the name as he wanted to bring something new to Chidlow and in talking to the local pub owners, he discovered back in the days when the trains ran through Chidlow, it was a narrow gauge system, so he decided to bring Standard Gauge to the village.

The restaurant offers a Chef's menu of seven courses, the menu changes according to what local produce is available and the restaurant only sits a maximum of 24 people. Be warned, although very new, it's become extremely popular and you need to book, often weeks in advance, especially for a weekend. It's BYO, but there is a liquor store next door.

Our courses included everything from Potato Fingers, through Risotto to Lamb, absolutely delicious, all accompanied by Alan's laconic Aussie sense of humour. He describes each dish as its brought to the table. If you're looking for great food and a great quirky restaurant, this is the spot. It's very much a 'Who you know' scenario - you'd never know or find the place if somebody in the know hadn't whispered in your ear. But be warned - don't eat lunch or nibble on anything the day you're going!

Amazing little gem of a restaurant. With very accommodating dietary requirements, our evening of a 7 course meal had our tongue’s salivating for each dish. All dishes were delivered with an explanation of its origin, and ingredients. Great atmosphere, with lots of interaction with chef and his 16yr old talented apprentice.

A fantastic surprise in Chidlow rewarding anyone who makes the trek 'up the hill' and past the petrol bowsers. A very enjoyable evening with a delicious degustation meal, delivered by the exceptionally talented two-person team. They are already award-winning but based on last night I think there will be many more to come! Rolled out completely stuffed and enjoyed chatting with chef Alan as he introduced each course. Thanks so much for a great night.
