Greeted by the lovely volunteers who told us to follow the rabbit footprints around the premises so that we do not miss anything. It is well maintained, great to read, listen and see the history and life of rabbits in the area.
Learnt how the Akubra Hat is made, a very hands on process to create a excellent hat. Love the building and the collections of what life was like.

What an interesting and wonderful place to visit. There was so much to see and learn, we were there for 2 hours but we could have easily spent all day there.

At the back of the Rabbit Works is the old Butter Factory, which is now a historical museum for all things from the 'old fashioned' days donated from Roger Wilson and his family. From old typewriters, calculators, lawn mowers and fridges, movie making equipment, tools, old biscuit/money tins, dunny's, beer bottle collection, bikes, chainsaws and a turn dial TV. It was great to show the kids how the old-fashioned people used to live.

The Rabbit Works Museum is shaped like a rabbit warren inside, so much to see and listen to in each room.
The tour guides were born and bred Texans who either worked at the Rabbit Works when it was in operation or worked in the town. Lucia, who is 86 years old, was our tour guide for the day. She was so proud of her town and its history and told us about her hubby Don (91 years old), who is an original Rabbit Works worker and the local country singer star.

Make sure, on your way out, buy a souvenir. This helps support the works, tour guides, and Texas Queensland.

We will be back next time we are in town to see where Lucia worked at the Texas Heritage Centre & Tobacco Museum, which is only open by appointment.

A well put together collection of early Australian lifestyle and everyday household items. Largely built around the rabbit hunting and processing industry that thrived here at Texas on the Qld and NSW border. If you are lucky to be here when a bus tour is visiting you may get to see the old engine start and run. I missed it ?

This is a truly a hidden gem. So much history. To think people used to do this for a living.. meat was sent to the UK, the pelts used for hats and the skins were sent to the USA.. well worth a visit...

Very informative, great friendly staff. Like going back in time especially with the multiple film clips throughout the venue.
Lots of interesting pieces of history and artefacts. Thoroughly enjoyable. Need a good two hours to fully appreciate but can get through quicker if need be. I’d suggest they sell Akubra hats there as the film on these hats was amazing. The amount of work going into making an Akubra hat justifies the price. There’s a potential I reckon to have some sort of order system for hats.
