Simply amazing! Check in with Tim ended up with a good chat and some great tips on the local area and the wildlife. After camping a few nights before we arrived it was a really nice place to unwind in a comfortable setting. Nice clean rooms with a hot shower and cosy bed.
Highly recommended, and would love to return! Iron range is a beautiful place and the Greenhoose fits right in.

*Edit* I wanted to make a special mention to Stu and Tim. You guys have really created something wonderful in the Greenhoose. Stu, thank you so much for showing us some of your favourite places around Iron Range.

With all of the good reviews, I was expecting this to be an amazing stay, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to the expectation for our 4 night/5 day stay.
I was there as part of a bird watching tour with several other people and our tour guide.
The place still looks good arriving with lovely gardens and cute room blocks, so that was nice. However after checking in, I found my room (number 6) had a large burst out section of broken siding on the wall above the bed. Also, the room itself it wasn’t as clean as it should be, noticed when storing things on or touching higher areas OR moving the bed to get rid of the bugs!
A couple days in to our stay I found my bed overrun with tiny ants! They weren’t biting, but they were using the bed and sheets as their thoroughfare to get to other parts of the room. (I hadn’t been eating in bed or having sweets in the room either)
I showed the infestation of ants to our guide but with no manager on site the only person around was the cook! She and our guide managed to find some insect surface spray and then our guide had to come himself to move the bed and spray all around the walls to deter the ants and then I had to leave the room for a long time with all the spray!
Upon moving the bed we found LOTS of dead bugs and dirt and another breach in the wall behind the bed. (Sadly for most of our stay there wasn’t a site manager available to help with issues there was only the cook and a maintenance person)
As bird watchers, we did walks on several of the Greenhoose owned tracks on both sides of the property. The tracks had not been maintained at all and not near the standard they used to be. Vines and tree limbs were across some parts of the tracks making it hard to get though and dead leaves were thick on the ground in many places which means walkers don’t see trip hazards like exposed roots etc. (the leaves used to be blown off) Also, on the track down to the river where the clearing is, the table there was covered in rubbish, old bottles and broken glass. It was very sad to see the state of the tracks given the good standard of the past.
Then the last morning something happened that was almost the worst thing you could ever expect while out walking. We had gone out at 6:30am on our last morning to walk down the river track. Then later on the way back up we suddenly started to smell smoke! We began to hurry back up the track and then we could also see flames right in front of us. (VERY SCARY) Then as we got to just before the back of the Greenhoose cabins we saw the flames were actually right alongside the track we were walking on and there were fire personal there conducting a planned burn!!
We were all so ANGRY and found it absolutely unbelievable that neither the owner or possible managers or ANYONE of Greenhoose was keeping track of planned burn schedules so in turn they would and should notify anyone staying that there was going to be a burn right beside the property and within 10 meters of one of the walking tracks! [Planned burns have and can get out of hand we all know!] We had planned to have a leisurely morning tea and a shower before heading out that last morning, but with all the smoke and flames right beside us, we just threw all our things in the car and got out of there immediately!

We stayed at The Greenhoose for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The rooms were small but comfortable, the meals we had on premises were great and all staff members were good friendly hosts.|Our principal aim was bird watching and sight seeing and we were very happy on both fronts. You certainly need a vehicle to get around and Paul from Lockhart Hire Cars was able to provide a most suitable vehicle. Overall a great place to visit and we hope to get back again.|Oh I almost forgot….great barista coffee available at the Greenhoose to start your day!!

This is a really fantastic place to stop for a few nights. Tim and his wife were welcoming and informative on the area and offer really neat accommodation that is clean and comfortable. The entire property is really neat and well positioned. Plenty of walks through the rain forest and they are busy with a Cafe that will be a nice stop that is sorely needed in the area, once completed. Highly recommended and will be back.

Simply amazing bird watching lodge. The cabins have decks if you don't want to walk but step off straight into the rainforest. Lots of tracks around the place make it safe and interesting day or night. The birds were incredible if elusive. The owners and staff were wonderful and the food fantastic.

We stayed at The Greenhoose on our 12 day Safari Tour with Far North Escapes on our way to The Tip. Great setting in the Rainforest, bush turkey roaming around, a lovely fire pit to sit around and sip a wine have a yarn. We had our own food, but equally The Greenhoose does do meals. Lyn and Stewie had many a tale to tell, they were convivial and so willing to chat, telling us many a story about the area and the fauna all around. One point to mention, they have laundry facilities available, well appreciated after many a day travelling. The Greenhoose was by far my favourite accommodation. Comfy beds, clean cool room and en suite too.
