I have now made two purchases off the herbal connection, and I was absolutely impressed. It's not just the quality of their product, but the speed of delivery to New Zealand, the communication is top notch and the little touches they added to my order, despite it being a bulk herb purchase. It came with pink tissue paper, a small complimentary gift and a lovely thank you card. It all just gave me a warm feeling. The whole experience meant they went to the top of my supplier list!

After dealing with The Herbal Connection for at least 5 years, I am astounded at their magnificent decline in quality and service in recent months. As a fourth generation herbalist with over 35 years in the industry, as well as a grower, I have been reliably informed by Chris that I have no clue how to determine the quality my herbs, and his eight years of experience in this business completely surpass my experience and formal education in the area. On returning the items as agreed, providing photographic evidence of postage as requested, I am in the first instance ignored. On follow up, I am informed I will not receive the refund until the package has been received despite being assured to the contrary. I explain to Chris that I will be addressing the issue and his lack of honesty; firstly in regard to the quality of his product, selling low grade as premium, secondly on entering a verbal undertaking to provide a full refund on evidence of postage, only to defy it; by contacting the Small Claims Tribunal, lodging a dispute with Paypal, along with other measures. Chris' response: "Our Solicitor will be the next contact. They have been made aware of your threats and we will act appropriately". I'm really not sure how the alleged winner of multiple customer service awards finds it appropriate to threaten legal action in response to expecting the very same quality and service provided for the last 5 years, and for follow through on a verbal agreement when proven at fault. Photo below is high quality 5+% curcumin turmeric in the dish (evidenced by dark colouring), compared to supermarket quality in bag underneath sent this order. High curcumin content is NEVER fluorescent yellow.

As a business, I refuse to pass on sub-standard quality goods to my clients, who trust me to do the appropriate duty of care on their behalf in sourcing quality product.

In short, I would recommend anyone purchasing from this business in the capacity of a herbalist, naturopath or the like, to request the associated lab reports to support quality claims by this business in regard to medicinal constituents, such as 5% curcumin in their premium Organic Curcuma longa, and the like. These being absent, I would recommend seeking more reputable alternatives.

Edit 1: After being contacted by Kim and providing my account information and being assured my refund would be processed, I today discovered that only a PARTIAL refund had been made. This remains in contempt of the agreement now twice made, first by Chris Colbert, and subsequently by Kim Berwick. It is also confirmation of the dishonesty endemic in this company. I will continue to take measures until the full amount owed is recovered. I continue to encourage potential customers to proceed with caution.

Edit 2: Received a "product refund". Refund agreement remains to be met. When shipping costs are covered as per our discussion - near the cost of the product over again, I will cease further action. It would appear near enough is good enough with quality, ethics AND accounts. In fact, how is it that I can ship the product back to you at a third of the price you charged to ship it to me?

Edit 3: 28th of February. The Herbal Connection has well and truly received their stock back, and no doubt re-sold it to some unsuspecting customer. Whilst Chris has still not come good on his promise. And he feigned offence when I called him dishonest? Pretty obvious isn't it Chris. Meanwhile, I've purchased my replacement turmeric from Austral Herbs, who have now gone up to 7% curcumin, evidenced by the appropriate paperwork and the lovely rich dark orange hue to back it up... and FREE SHIPPING! Always reliable, should never have bothered giving these guys the benefit of the doubt. Lesson learned.
