This remains a significant historical landmark located at the corner of McLean and Macintyre Streets. It is an old Carbeen tree has served as a meeting place for the community, especially during times of flood. Historically, it was used as a notice board where residents would gather to read updates about river heights and flood predictions. We enjoyed it on a couple of walks along the river bank which has a few iconic landmarks including the one of the famous horse. Yes Gunsynd - who else?

An interesting way to learn about the previous floods in Goondiwindi. There are no more floods now thanks to the building of the levee around the town decades ago.

Really nice spot for a picnic. The Tree of Knowledge and the Gunsynd Statue. Would recommend eating at the park of the left of the bridge going into New South Wales, there is a moderately clean toilet and a bubbler for water. Two nice landmarks close together.

A beautiful little piece of local history. This tree was the gathering spot watching the river rise during floods. While there people would shoot the breeze and tell stories of past floods.

Standing near the tree you can almost hear the old gaffers still trading yarns and telling stories to distract themselves from the fear of the town being flooded.

I can definitely appreciate the historic value of the tree (it certainly is incredible) but it is in a bit of an awkward location next to the border bridge (which is closed off due to COVID). Pretty incredible nonetheless.
